Capricorn District Women in Law Enforcement Services gathered at Aganang Local Municipality on 28 August 2013 to wrap up Women's Month executing their road duties. A parade was performed by the traffic officers before starting the targeted roadblocks in partnership with Matlala SAPS . Lieutenant-Colonel W Moabelo declared their determined support to women programmes in law enforcement sectors.
Traffic Officers from Molemole, Polokwane, Blouberg and Aganang Municipalities embarked on a massive roadblocks operation at Saaiplaas, Tibane and corner Gilead and Knobel road at Ceres to enforce road compliance amongst Aganang road users. Polokwane Station Commander Traffic Control Centre Maggie Segooa said their aim for gathering at Aganang roads is to show commitment and how capable women traffic officers are in terms of law enforcement in the province. "We are in this joint Operation with our stakeholders from Vlakfontein SAPS, Emergency Medical Services and Fire Brigade staff. Our main goal is to check drivers and vehicle fitness and speed operation. We advise road users to always put on their safety belts as they normally tend to ignore its use", said the Commander.
Molemole Divisional Head Traffic and Licensing Cecilia Mokumo appreciated the unity and support women traffic officers showed during other campaigns held at other municipalities within Capricorn District in celebrating Women's Month. "This is not the end but the beginning of togetherness of women in the law enforcement unit. Wear your uniform with pride and do your work with pride too", motivated Mokumo during the parade.
Addressing the traffic officers parade, Acting Mayor Cllr Mary Dikgale indicated that women were oppressed due to lack of education.She further admired the braveness of 1976 women such as Lillian Ngoyi, Charlotte Maxeke and Winnie Madikezela-Mandela who fought the stereotype of women being housewives. "We are happy to see women as traffic officers in the male dominated profession. Women have the capacity and ability to excel in their profession as long as they maintain their self-esteem and confidence", encouraged the Acting Mayor. She further said freedom has given the women an opportunity to set their hopes high as nowadays different positions are available to all.
Cllr Dikgale admired the roles women traffic officers play on the roads. "Accidents reduce tax payer's money and lives of our people. For the safety of community at large, let's work together as women as our motto says "Mmogo re tla kgona", she concluded.
Aganang women traffic officer Sarina Rabalao was delighted by the support and attendance her colleagues displayed at the Women in Law Enforcement roadblocks within Aganang Local Municipality. Behind every woman successes, there are men who attended the roadblocks in support of women initiatives. Senior Manager Community Services Manape Thamaga, Chief Traffic Officer Kailane Setati and municipal traffic officer and Matlala SAPS police officers.
