Aganang Local Municipality recently conducted a workshop at the Council Chambers, this in an effort to further promote economic transformation as per Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) Act.
The workshop was attended by over 30 disabled suppliers based within the municipality. This group was specifically targeted as they currently make less than 1% of registered suppliers on the municipal database for the 2010/2011 financial year. The other upcoming workshops in the current financial year will target women and youth with the last one incorporating all suppliers.
Aganang Senior Procurement Officer, Mr. Japhta Thoka explained different types of quotations and bids, while also indicating what documents must be attached on quotations, bids and other statutory requirements. "We sometimes find that suppliers do not give price breakdown on quotations, fail to submit required documents as per advertisement or submit invoices which are not inclusive of all the required details", Thoka said.
Others who made presentation during the workshop on among other topics business registration, tendering and financial management were Capricorn District Municipality, Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA) and Construction Industry Development Board.
Disabled People of South Africa Limpopo's (DPSA) Mr. Dayson Shivambu thanked the municipality for providing an enabling environment to disabled suppliers in terms of procurement opportunities. "We can as well manage businesses like able bodied people; it is however our responsibility to make sure we adhere to terms of our contracts and do the right things", Shivambu said.
