Aganang Advocates for Green Concept at Ambergate School


Ambergate Primary School ceased classes in a jubilant mood. This follows after the municipality donated and planted 10 trees in the school yard and handed over more than 150 trees to 19 Ward Councillors to plant in the yards of selected RDP houses. Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Maria Mokobodi prioritized households headed by women and orphans to receive two trees consisting of indigenous and fruit trees as a way to promoting the Green Concept across Aganang wards. In her address, Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Mokobodi outlined the significance of planting trees at Ambergate Primary School as a way to support the footprint of the emerging young athlete Nare Mokonyama. "We want to empower and honour our little star Nare and her educators for moulding her talent in athletics. I want to applaud all the educators for the enormous good role you are partaking in our children‘s lives and one tree will be named after Nare Mokonyama to mark her remembrance in Arbor Week", outlined Her Worship Mayor.

Aganang Local Municipality came 3rd position in the District Greenest Municipality competitions. Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Mokobodi expressed joy over the victory and requested Aganang communities to plant trees in their households because of their importance in the environment. "We are planting trees to ensure that our nature is maintained and we also restore our atmosphere to keep ourselves healthy. As Aganang Municipality, we are advocating for the Green Concept by saving water and cleaning our environment through the Community Work Programmes and Extended Public Works Programmes", explained the Mayor, Cllr Mokobodi.

Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Mokobodi further advised that trees are Protected Species that should not be destroyed by the society as they protect the world from disasters and Global warming. "We will be experiencing challenges of floods, tsunami and hurricanes in 100 years to come if we don't take good care of our land and our lifespan will be reduced because of the excruciating heat as ozone layer is gradually being depleted as the ", urged the Mayor, Cllr Mokobodi. She concluded that people must start to nurture and care of trees as the effects are going to be felt by the next generations to come.

Ambergate School Governing Body Chairperson Mme Mabusela appreciated the municipality's efforts of donating trees to their school. "We want to send words of gratitude to Her Worship Mayor Cllr Mokobodi and the Council for prioritising in our school as trees are much needed in Ambergate Primary School. We have been struggling to purchase trees and finally our demands have been answered", said the mesmerised Chairperson.
