AGANANG MAYOR, HER WORSHIP, CLLR MARIA MOKOBODI CALLS ON YOUNG PEOPLE TO ABSTAIN AND CONDOMISE IN CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL STI & CONDOM WEEK
Kolopo residents and department of health celebrated STI & Condom Week in Percy Clinic
Aganang Local Municipality commemorated STI & Condom Week on the 13 February 2015 at Ga-Kolopo Village at Percy Clinic. This formed part of national wide campaign to raise awareness on Sexually Transmitted Infections. The campaign was also used to encourage young people to what is called Consistent Use of condoms. Local nurses from Percy Clinic graced the platform by doing demonstration on how to use both women and men condoms. Her Worship Mayor of Aganang Cllr Maria Mokobodi encouraged young people attending the campaign to practice ABC methods: Abstain, Be faithful & condomize.
Cllr Mokobodi cautioned young people on activities which may put their health at risk. Health workers run a mini workshop about the danger and risks of contracting STI's including HIV & AIDS. They say In South Africa, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) remain a big problem, even though most of the infections can be cured. The fear of being stigmatized is one of the many reasons why people are reluctant to seek medical treatment for sexually transmitted infections."STI/Condom Week is aimed not only at reducing the spread of STI but also to curb the spread of HIV and AIDS." They said.
Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Maria Mokobodi encouraging young people to effectively use condoms during sexual intercourses.
More than 400 young people attended the event, and were given an opportunity to interact with health officials. A special arrangement was also made to give provision for everyone to be given a chance to do HIV Test. Her Worship Mayor, Cllr Maria Mokobodi encouraged parents to not be ashamed to talk about everything with students including about sex. She also encouraged children to ask their parents any health related issues and also to consult clinics. The campaign was planned in conjunction with Capricorn District Municipality and the Department of health.
