Achivers Awards


Municipality reward its stars

Aganang Local Municipality hall was a hive of activity on Friday 13 February. This was during the 7th municipal achievers awards. The awards aim to recognise and reward those who continue to put the municipality on the map in the country and on the international front. The awards were held for the first time in 2002.

The event was honoured by the presence of Kgoshigadi Matlala, Kgoshigadi and Kgoshi Moloto III, with Advocate Joseph Mokgokong giving a motivational talk on the day. Aganang councillors, officials and other dignitaries were also in attendance.

During her keynote address Aganang mayor Cllr Mmanoko Masehela said the municipality will always identify and recognise people with different talents and expertise within the municipal area. "It is really an honour for me to be amongst those who are celebrating the 7th Aganang Local Municipality's annual achievers awards. It is our tradition to celebrate achievements of our people, because their achievements are our achievements," Masehela said.

People from the education fraternity were the biggest winners on the day. Other highlights were Mmaphuti Meso getting Mayor's special award for her part in the arts through poetry and praise singing. The old lady is forever present in municipal events; as such she is like the unofficial municipal praise singer. She also did a poem on HIV/AIDS, to loud applause from the audience.

Winners from the education fraternity included, Samuel Moloto and Phillip Metlhape, sharing the best teacher Sepedi award, best Teacher English going to Helen Lamola and Shokie Molapo, Best Teacher Afrikaans, Salome Mokgata, Best Teacher Economics, Noko Lamola, Best Teacher Business Economics- Atiba Ledwaba and Kedibone Mmola, Best Teacher Life Orientation-Joseph Mokoka, Best Teacher Physical Science-George Varghese, Best Teacher Accounting-Kgabo Mabotja, Best Teacher Mathematics- William Mashala and Jeena Koshy, Best Teacher Life Science-Matthews S, Best Teacher Agriculture-Francina Phaka, Best Teacher Geography-Malebana R.D and Molatjane N.G, Best Teacher History- Benjamin Pohotona, Best Learner-Mabotsha Mogashoa.

Harry Oppenheimer Agricultural High School, Chika High School and Madikweng High School were named 100% pass in matric schools, while Harry Oppenheimer was also named the best school in the municipality.

Most Improved School award went to Sekati Secondary School, while Mogaladi primary school was named best primary school. Best Sports Person award was scooped by - Caster Semenya, representing Limpopo and South Africa in the 800m athletics at the Commonwealth games and Phillip Kwenaite best performing in arts and culture.

Entrepreneurial spirit also got rewarded as Lephalala Diana was named best emerging entrepreneur, Peter Maleka community builder and Ramoshoane Egg Production named best project. Winners walked away with a trophy and certificate.

Best Ward Committee award went to WARD 9, while Monhla Hlahla was named Community Kwankwetla. A Kwankwetla is someone from within the municipality, who can be occupying a top position in any given field in the country. That is a role model and inspiration to the community. Hlahla is currently CEO of Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), winner of several business awards and also sat on boards of ABSA, International Marketing Council (IMC), Development Bank of South Africa (DBSA) and South African Tourism among others.
