RE: Aganang Local Municipality observes 16 Days of Activism against Women and Children Abuse

Aganang Municipality like other spheres of Government is observing the 16 Days of Activist against women & children abuse. This is a National campaign aimed at creating awareness in communities against abuse of women and children as they are most affected and vulnerable. The campaign is mainstreamed to Gender based violence. Aganang Municipality launched the campaign on the 26 November 2014 in Matlaleng in Mashashane area. The launch was in a form of Door to door to households.

The event was organized by the Municipality in collaboration with Matlala & Mashashane Victim Empowerment Center. The participants were Community policing Forums, Home Based Carers, Social workers, police and Aganang Municipality Councilors. The long day campaign managed to reach more than 200 people. Social workers managed to identify people who will need their attention, while Home Based Corers also identified people who will need to be taken care of from their homes.

Aganang Municipality will again on the 05 December 2014 launch a Men’s Forum. The forum will be comprised of stakeholders from various organizations within Aganang Municipality. The main purpose of the forum is to create a platform where men can peacefully sit and discuss gender issues. The forum will also help in facilitating awareness against women and children abuse. It will also facilitate the removal of stigmatisation of men who are experiencing abuse at their families.
